“Practitioners, researchers and local communities work together in a sustained way, defining and pursuing key lines of research, development and implementation.”

A tradition of service

SERP recruits an interdisciplinary team of researchers, developers, and practitioners who are among the nation's most accomplished in the field. Many of the academic leaders on these teams serve without compensation, building on the national service tradition established by Abraham Lincoln at the National Academy of Sciences.

Providing opportunities for new researchers

One of the goals of SERP is to enable graduate students in education to participate in practice-embedded, responsive research from the beginning of their research careers. SERP researchers have had the opportunity to work with a wide array of doctoral students and postdocs, who have contributed to the research agenda and who have benefitted from the SERP partnership by gathering data and publishing papers. Some of these are still students, some are still involved with SERP, others have gone on to independent research careers.
